Abstract:
Cities have started expanding and saturating more rapidly than ever. With this people in metropolitan cities like Delhi have started depending for living and working on the its satellite cities. This results in the following urban agglomeration facing a major challenge of cross commuting via public and private transport between cities for their daily living. This design thesis focuses on investing the issues faced by user on the daily basis travelling through different hierarchy of public transport, by evaluating the need of modern infrastructure solution. Looking at the existing transit hub and stations in Delhi, which only suffice the basic function needs of the user and predominantly are pre-engineered building, this design thesis focuses on how to define a new age multimodal public transport hub for specific places and explores the factors that govern the defining language of the architecture for such interventions. With Anand Vihar Junction coming up as a next major transport hub having multi transport facilities and potential to integrate much more such as pilot project of Uber Air was also proposed on the site looking through the strength that the site. The proposed design will not only solve but will give better functional integration keeping in mind better financial model, cultural acceptance and promoting public transport.
